The safety of an efficient table saw can be evaluated based on the construction of its three main components namely the Anti-kickback protection, blade guard assembly and the rip fence design. The anti-kickback assembly is placed close to the blade guard for eliminating the reverse forces emerging from the core area of workpiece and blade when the table is in operation.
The efficient working of a table saw depends on the construction and assembly of its parts according the quality standards. You can find more info in the EN ISO 13857:2008 Safety guidelines. They formulate fundamental and advanced features of the various table saw parts. Some of the critical parts for which these standards apply are the rip fences, blade, guard assembly, anti-kickback assembly, table, adjustment knobs, throat plate, motor, power cord and the supporting tools.
Ripping and Cross Cutting
- The table saw should be able to provide adequate working space for the operator and support for the work piece. This should also consider the position of the operator’s hands while placing the workpiece on the table. The adjustment parameters of eh saw guard should be flexible to allow different types and sizes of workpiece within the operational area. The guard should be designed in such a manner that it can house maximum part of the blade. The exposed part of the blade should be sufficient to perform the cutting operation effectively according to the user specifications. All these aspects are taken care of by the design and assembly of Dewalt DWe7480.
- The blade should be positioned with respect to the workpiece in such a way that the teeth can project through the surface when you are cutting the workpiece. There should be provision for changing the blade at runtime, if you experience any problems with the existing blade. This feature is dependent on the flexible design of the table saw. The Dewalt DWe7480 is highly flexible to allow all these features.
- In some cases you may use the riving knife instead of the saw blade. This is especially the case while performing non-thru cutting operations. In such cases the riving knife should have the right kind of leading edge. This helps in cutting the workpiece at the right dimensions and angle. The body of the riving knife needs to be slightly thicker in size compared to the saw blade. This to ensure functional safety of the workpiece and the operator, as there may not be any external guard.
- The tilting arbor saw provides sufficient room for making angled cuts through -45 degrees to + 45 degrees. There is plenty of option for making the blade go in an inclined position with respect to the workpiece and the table. The housing assembly of the blade guard should be designed in such a manner that there is no physical contact with the blade at any point of time. The fence will be automatically set to the lowest possible position to avoid physical contact with the blade. The Dewalt DWe7480 has been designed to incorporate these features.
